Tanvir Chowdhury English 28 9:35-11:00 Dr. Gill Disadvantages of Fast Foods Time is money. This is the new buzzword in today’s world. People are now spending more time by running after money then spending time on their daily activities. No wonder fast food is on the rise. May people do not realize that fast food is a slow death. It has many disadvantages, as it is unhealthy, expensive and causes many diseases. Even though, fast food is the fastest way to feed our hunger, it is not healthy at all. It is full of saturated and unsaturated fat.
Moreover, it is a major source of calories and most of these calories are from fat. Unsaturated fats are good fat. Which means someone can burn this fat overtime through exercise. On the other side, saturated fats are bad fat which cannot be burned and stay in our body. French fries, deep fried chicken and other deep fried foods are the major source of trans fats. Furthermore, it is one of the reasons behind people getting over weight these days. Fast food is full of sodium. If we look at the nutrients facts on one of our favorite fast food, we will see the highest percentage of sodium in it.
Moreover, sugar is one of the major ingredients of fast food. Desserts like apple pie and apple with caramel at MacDonald’s, ice cream etc. Next, fast food is not prepared in a sanitary way. From behind the counter we cannot say if the food was washed before being prepared, or if the workers washed their hands. Even though someone who loves fast food will say, they use gloves, but we cannot stop them from coughing on the food. Also, may be if they are sick, their bacteria will be transferred on the food too. Moreover, the kitchens in the fast food restaurants are like a half clean trash can.
Once one of the KFC restaurant had many rats. Furthermore, the type of meat used for fast food is really low. Also sometimes, some restaurants use a stale meat that is terrible. We should not eat a food which is only feeding our hunger and not healthy for us. Fast food is expensive than homemade food. It is increasing our credit card bill every month. Everyday average people spend at least $10 dollar for them selves and $40 dollar for family dinner at a fast food restaurant. If someone buys the ingredients and makes the same food at home, we can only save money, but also can have a healthy meal.
Lot of people run to the fast food for better and delicious test. However, it is proved that if we make the same food at home it will come out more better and delicious test. In addition, fast food should be cheaper compare to its quality. To make foods fast food companies use low category meat, bread, sauce etc. Moreover, the food we are eating who knows when it was produced how long it was in the fridge. If we can make the same food at home it is much fresher plus we know what ingredients we are using. According to our researchers, the longer foods are reserved, the more they are bad for health.
So everybody should started make own food at home not only for our health, but also to save a lot amount of money. The American culture, it has become normal for people to eat fattening foods while ignoring the fact the food can increase the risk for diabetes and obesity. Fast food has high levels of cholesterol and sodium much more than what a normal person would need in one day. The risk for heart disease increases when individuals eat these unhealthy foods especially because is cheaper than going to stores like Whole Foods to buy healthy food.
For example, choosing a value meal at a fast food restaurant that includes a large hamburger, a large order of French fries, and a beverage combined contains at least 63 grams of fat. Usually all fast food has high amounts of calories, cholesterol, and fat. Because of that, Americans should know about the dangerous unhealthy food. A less commonly known yet still dangerous side effect of eating fast food is liver damage. ABC News explains that eating high-fat foods from fast food restaurants can overload the liver and eventually lead to liver damage.
Eating too much fast food over a period can actually damage the liver as much or more than drinking alcohol. Fast food has a resulted in child obesity. Which is truly a tragedy not only has obesity affected adults and but also children at an alarming rate. The numbers of fast food restaurants targeting child and adolescent customers are found to be clustered around schools. The addicting flavors and affordability of fast food has contributed to encouraging the young gradually to grab a quick lunch a thought. For example, a small hamburger has 200 calories, and a large hamburger has about 500 to 600 calories.
If individual put this together is like they are eating 400 to 1,800 calories in one fast food meal. Apart from the many types of fast food offered inside the school cafeteria, the fast food restaurant outlets are multiplying around the school grounds and neighborhood. On the other hand, children are taught to obey their parents to do as they are told and parents do not see the risk they are of their actions. They do not realize the amount of damage they are causing potentially leading to their child to death. The statistics right regard is to see child obesity.
Study show that 25 percent of boys and 33 percent of girls aged between 2 and 19 years are overweight or obese. Fast food is certainly an occasional fun treat, it is should not be our regular meal. Sadly, too many people visit too often, with unwholesome results and bad habits setting the stage for health disasters for our young people. Moreover, if we look at the statistics, the average lifetime of us is on falling. Fast food has a big impact behind it. In addition, it is expensive compare to its quality. Finally we should not eat any food which will bring that many problems.
